WORKING PRINCIPLE : The water pressure exerted towards the walls of the dams can be reduced by paving rocks at an angle of 45 Degree slope , thus diverting the water pressure towards the earth.
Introduction: Due to natural calamities like earthquake, flood and heavy rains bursting of dams happens. Lakhs of people lost their shelter and many died. Old dams are always a threat to mankind because of poor infrastructure.
In our system EQUIPRESSURE DAM , we are presenting a solution to avoid bursting of dams due to flood, earthquake, heavy rain etc. Dams are very important to mankind, but they are also considered to cause massive destruction on mankind and environment due to failures which includes
- Geological instability caused by changes in water level.
- Poor maintenance especially of outlet pipes
- Extreme inflow of water
- Earthquake etc.
Our system EQUIPRESSURE DAM is designed to counter all these drawbacks.
In our system “EQUIPRESSURE DAM ”, a 45 degree slope of rock pavement which is built up inside the dam wall and the bottom ground level reduces the water pressure which exerts towards the walls of the dam.
The dam is composed of individual transverse vertical elements each of which carries its load to the foundation without transfer of load from or to the adjacent elements.
FOR EXAMPLE: In a 50 Meter heighted dam, the top 10 Meter water level exerts some pressure towards the dam walls, the next 10 Meter downward layer exerts 3 times pressure than the upper 10 Meter layer. This pressure change continues till bottom layer and pressure will be maximum at the bottom level. Ie. 80 times than top water level. During heavy rain the water level exceeds the spillage way. In such situations the water pressure would be maximum, which leads to the bursting of dam walls.
To overcome these conditions here in our system “EQIPRESSURE DAM” the water pressure exerted will be directed towards the earth’s gravitational pull, so that breaking of dam walls can be prevented.
ADVANTAGES OF OUR SYSTEM :
- The old dams can be modified using 45 degree slope of rock pavement inside the dam. The cost will be only 1/10 th of the current rate of construction of a new dam.
- Since the pressure exerted goes towards the bottom of the dam, there are no chances of bursting of walls due to high pressure.
- It is earth quake resistant.
